With an ambitious production, Cuban troubaour, Alex Mendez is pointing at a whole new way of playing the Cuban "trova" - yet respecting the proud traditions.
"Anque arda el Malecon" is the follow up to "Ella no escucha la trova" (Tiger music, 2006) and is the second album from Alex Mendez. It is recorded from 2006-2009 in Copenhagen and Havanna and mastered by Anders Schuman in Copenhagen in 2010.

Alex Mendez has been living Denmark since 2003 and the songs on the album has been composed in this period.

The album is full of contrasts both regarding form and content as well musically as lyrically.

The themes of the songs are reflections over his Cuban roots, beeing af foreigner in Denmark and the meeting of two different worlds. And you find both the almost trite lyrics along with the profound and cryptical.

In the same way you find musical contrasts between the easy going expression along with experimenting and symphonical expressions.

With no doubt the music has it's roots in Cuba and Latin America with the use genres like the Cuban "son" and the Brazilian Bossa Nova. But he is widely experimenting with other influences like jazz, classical and electronical music.

This way the album is poiting a complete different direction htan is previous release but also in a different direction from the general tendencies in the "trova" genre.
